Apple Cider Recipe

Ingredients:
  • Apple Juice (Organic has less preservatives) (1 gallon)
  • Sugar (1 cup)
  • Yeast (traditional active dry yeast) (1 teaspoon)
  • Water
  • lemon Juice (teaspoon)
  • Cinnamon (to taste)

Hardware:
  • Bottle
  • Valve (or balloon)
  • Funnel
  • Stove pot

Prep: Wash out all hardware used. Use boiling water to help sterilize,

  1. Take one bottle of Apple Juice (1/4th of your Juice) and boil it in a pot. This this will help dissolve the sugar and make it easier for the yeast later on.

2. While this gets to a boil, multitask! Get a small container and fill it up with warm (not hot!) water and put a teaspoon of the yeast. This will help it activate quicker. Mix the yeast and let it start to dissolve into the water.

3. When the Apple cider starts to boil put in a cup of sugar (or two if  you want!). This is also a good time to add spices if you feel the need. This could be, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, brown sugar, molasses. Mix the ingredients until they dissolve fully.

4. Take the pot off the stove. Take the other bottles of apple juice and pour them into the container of your choice. Fill it half way with the juice, then poor the hot apple spice mixture into the container. After they are mixed, poor in the yeast water solution and top up with any left over apple juice. As a final touch ad a dash of lemon juice.

 5. Finally put a valve (or a balloon) on the top of the bottle. This will help let the gasses escape the container and not let bugs in. Let it sit for a week-ish or until most of the bubbling has stoped. You can add more sugar to taste before you bottle. When you are ready to bottle syphon out the cider into a new contater and refrigerate for a week to produce fizz (or drink right away without fizz).
